La Leche League Meeting August

This Thursday, August 14, at 10 am is the August Oak Hill La Leche League Meeting.

This meeting is about Overcoming Difficulties and that covers just about everything! We would enjoy it if you could join us for this month's meeting so that you can share your experiences with other moms or so that we can help you with your difficulties.

I think that we will be in room A206 which is at the other end of the hall from the room that we are usually in.

There will be a small party after the meeting for Kelly Horton since she's retiring from leading meetings after this one.

Thanks,

Natalie Galletti

Co-Leader with several other wonderful women at the West Toddler, West PM & Oak Hill La Leche League Meetings.

If you feel that La Leche League has helped make a difference in your life then please consider becoming a member or renewing your membership at the next meeting. It's only $40 for the whole year, about the same as dinner for 2 and a movie, and it helps support the organization that has helped you so that we can continue to help others. If you seem to keep forgetting to bring your checkbook to the meeting you can mail a check to me at 7004 Chinook Drive Austin, TX 78736-1840. Be sure to make the check out to La Leche League Oak Hill and that it has your current address on it. Thanks!

Announcing the WABA World Breastfeeding Week 1-7 August 2008

World breastfeeding week 2008 mother support going for the gold

WABA: Protects, Promotes and Supports Breastfeeding Worldwide The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organisations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide. WABA action is based on the Innocenti Declaration, the Ten Links for Nurturing the Future and the Global Strategy for Infant & Young Child Feeding. Its core partners are IBFAN, LLLI, ILCA, Wellstart International and ABM. Find out more at the WABA
Breastfeeding results from a reproductive health continuum for the mother to the child with no beginning or end, from generation to generation. When a practice is disrupted, it must be restored. However, restoration of the breastfeeding culture demands more resources and mobilization.

In conjunction with the Olympics next August, WBW 2008 calls for greater support for mothers in achieving the gold standard of infant feeding: breastfeeding exclusively for six months, and providing appropriate complementary foods with continued breastfeeding for up to two years or beyond.

As every country sends its best athletes to compete at these global games, it is important to remind ourselves that, in a similar fashion, a healthy young athlete can only emerge from a healthy start on life. There is no question that optimal infant and young child feeding is essential for optimal growth and development.
